Textbooks, Cell Phones, and Diapers: Being a Dad in Adolescent Fathers’ Own Words

This study sets out to investigate YouTube videos posted by adolescent fathers in order identify the rhetorical and discursive strategies they utilize. More specifically, it aims provide a description of how these young men represent themselves construct their online identity with regard gender age. paper intends shed light on intersections between masculinity age discourses, drawing premise that are particularly strong when comes teenage parenthood. An ad hoc data set consisting featuring teen dads has been built analyzed through approach social media critical discourse studies, which combines theories concepts belonging traditions CDA digital humanities. Preliminary results indicate negotiate identities as fathers, males, teenagers trying reconcile contradictions expectations characterize masculinity, fatherhood, adolescence/adulthood discourses. Their work reveals strategic alternation adoption “self” adult “self”, serves purpose coming across “good fathers” spite being “kids having kids”.
